Hamzah's Personal Application
Personal Application: While working on projects I realized how important it is for people as a team to work with one another effectively. Working together with other people is what leads to achievement of a goal. A number of issues can arise such as lack of communication or support and teamwork among the team. Personally, I have had to work with other people before in other college and high school classes so I know some of the issues that are bound to come up. When making this model I realized that if I had thought of some of these aspects before maybe teamwork could have been different. In the following paragraphs I am going to describe how some of the aspects from the theoretical model were applied by me.
Communication is one aspect which is vital to successful teamwork. There can be very capable people who have a lot of knowledge about a topic but if they do not know how to communicate with other people and work as a team then they can fail even though they may have the knowledge to get the work done. Team members should work on creating ideas about what to do together as a team. They should also As being part of an online class communication was a challenge that my team members and I faced. A lot of the communication for our team was done through email as all of our schedules are busy. One thing that I definitely learned and used was being able to effectively talk to one another without feeling a sense of holding back. We were comfortable enough to ask questions and discuss things further when we needed help understanding something, I think that using all of these aspects such as communication, organization skills and goal interdependence really helped us complete the project and work well with one another.
The next part in our theoretical model is organization skills. To be an organized team there have to be certain roles designated to each member of the team. There has to be a leader and the leader is not someone who just tells everyone else in the group what to do without allowing feedback or participation from other members of the team. The leader is in fact the opposite of this, the leader takes responsibility to work with other members and makes a decision after listening to what every member has to say. Other roles have to be assigned as well so that every member knows their part and what they have to do. We had to be responsible for the part that was assigned to us because there was no other way it could get done. Every member should be responsible for their part of the project so everyone has an equal share of work to do. When there is no organization, that is when things can get difficult and it becomes harder to work together and get things done efficiently.
The last aspect of our theoretical model is goal interdependence. The goal for this project was to work with a team in building a theoretical model which shows aspects of how to build a high performing team. The end goal is one of the main things that should be put into focuses because once everyone visualizes it, then it becomes easier for everyone to work towards that goal. While working on a project with other people we have to realize that there are other things that our goals depend on as well. For our model goal interdependence had to do with attainability of the goal and the efforts put forth to achieve that goal. For me personally,
thinking about the outcome and the end goal was helpful in doing the work and outing in the effort. Everyone in the team was well aware of what needed to be done and how much work had to be put in in order for the goals to be met. The goals of this project were far more than creating a website which showcased the theoretical model that we worked on. The goals of this project were to learn and implement such a model in the teams that we had to ensure the best work possible. I gave my ideas about the model and worked on making the model as well.
